Mora remains in Webster's corner

Atlanta Falcons
10/24/2006 8:20 AM
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the day after a thrilling 41-38 overtime victory over Pittsburgh, the Falcons began shuffling personnel for Sunday's game at Cincinnati. CB Jason Webster won't be among the changes. Falcons HC Jim Mora, who brought Webster with him from San Francisco three seasons ago and has been a steadfast supporter of the oft-injured cornerback, said Webster would not be replaced. Although the Steelers frequently threw Webster's way with success (418 passing yards overall), Mora said Webster has been solid all season and did not receive the designed support from safeties throughout Sunday's game. "There's no move going to be made there," Mora said. "He had a little bit of a rough outing [Sunday], but he wasn't the only one back there that had a rough outing. On a couple of those throws there was supposed to be a guy over the middle helping him and the guy wasn't there." Read more

The Dayton Daily News reports interceptions fueled the Cincinnati Bengals defense in 2005 when the club picked off 31 passes en route to its first playoff bid since 1990. This season, it's all about the sacks. The Bengals haven't had a double-digit sack master since Alfred Williams toppled 10 quarterbacks in 1992. They'll likely have two in 2006 — Justin Smith and Robert Geathers. Six games deep into the season, Smith and Geathers have generated 6.0 sacks each for the Bengals, who are tied for 12th in the NFL with 15. The club in on pace for 40. Its goal is to shatter the club record of 48 set in 2001. Read more

Chad toning down the trash talk

Cincinnati Bengals
10/20/2006 9:16 AM
The Dayton Daily News reports Bengals WR Chad Johnson is strangely quiet these days. Twenty-four catches for 300 yards (a 12.5-yard-per-catch average) and one touchdown sure has a way of toning down a trash-talker. "I can't be the aggressor with this right here," said Johnson, pointing to his mouth, "when my approach and my game play is not aggressive at all. It's not matching up. "Last year, I could be aggressive because I knew, when I got up on Sunday, we were going to be the aggressive opponent. But right now, I can't take an aggressive approach and then go out there and be a sitting duck and a decoration." Read more
