Winslow quiet a day after critical remarks

AP reports TE Kellen Winslow walked into the locker room, snaked through some TV cameras and kicked off his sneakers. Snatching a pair of headphones from a shelf, he left moments later listening to loud music. No interviews, thank you. Winslow was quiet on Wednesday, a welcomed calm for the struggling Browns. At least Cleveland HC Romeo Crennel fixed one thing. Crennel said he met with Winslow, who told him he thought he made a mistake for going to the media on Monday to publicly criticize Cleveland's coaches for not playing him during key third-down situations and for being too conservative. Steelers QB puts priorities in order

The Dayton Daily News reports QB Ben Roethlisberger's emergency appendectomy and fever were nothing compared with the motorcycle crash that nearly claimed his life in June. The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback wasn't himself in Monday night's 9-0 loss at Jacksonville, not with a 100.4-degree temperature giving him chills and hot flashes. Then again, he was just happy to be playing the game he loves. "Going through everything I've gone through, it kind of makes you appreciate, if you will, the better things in life," Roethlisberger said. "Understand that, yeah, we lost a game. But it is a game. I'm thankful just to be out there. Of course, I'm upset that we lost the game and I didn't play well, but I'm happy just to be alive and to be out there to play football." Read more

Bengals need to be more physical than Steelers

The Dayton Daily News reports Pittsburgh Steelers HC Bill Cowher owns a 21-8 record (.724) against Cincinnati — his most victories against any team — and Bengals DT Sam Adams knows why. "Pittsburgh prides itself on physically beating you up," Adams said. "That's how they go about doing their business. Every team in the league wants to play physical. The teams that play more physical than the others are the teams that get to the playoffs and win championships. "So if we want to be one of those teams, then we have to play more physical than the Steelers." Read more

Running back by committee for Texans

The Houston Chronicle reports the Texans' running game is averaging 89 yards a game, which ranks 21st in the league. HC Gary Kubiak says all three backs — Wali Lundy, Ron Dayne and Samkon Gado — will play for the second consecutive week. There is a chance that Lundy might be replaced in the starting lineup by Dayne. Read more
