Washington Redskins 09/28/2006 7:31 AMThe Washington Post reports Redskins QB Mark Brunell missed practice yesterday for the first time this season because of soreness in his lacerated left elbow, raising the possibility that he might not play Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. While HC Joe Gibbs said he expected Brunell to play -- he was listed as probable on yesterday's injury report -- the quarterback was less definitive about his status. "I'm day-to-day," Brunell said. "That's all I really know right now."Read more
Atlanta Falcons 09/28/2006 7:29 AMThe Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Falcons middle LB Ed Hartwell practiced for the first time this regular season Wednesday, saying that a month after having both of his knees arthroscopically repaired he feels better than he has "in two years." Whether that means he is well enough to play Sunday when the Falcons (2-1) play host to the Arizona Cardinals has yet to be determined, but Hartwell said if the determination were his, he would start. "Fortunately, it's not my call," Hartwell said. "We'll see how I respond to the pounding I did [Wednesday] and hopefully I'll be out there Sunday, rolling." DE John Abraham, who HC Jim Mora said Tuesday is close to returning from a groin injury that has sidelined him the past two games, was excused from practice to attend a funeral. He is expected to return Thursday.Read more
Miami Dolphins 09/28/2006 7:25 AMThe Palm Beach Post reports when TE Randy McMichael said in August that he was getting ready to have "the best season a tight end has ever had for the Miami Dolphins," there was little reason to doubt him. After all, the 60 catches McMichael had last season were second only to the team-record 73 he grabbed in 2004. Plus, he was back in the same offense with former NFL tight end Mike Mularkey as coordinator. And with QB Daunte Culpepper aboard, McMichael finally had a top-notch quarterback to deliver the ball.Read more
Cincinnati Bengals 09/28/2006 7:18 AMThe Dayton Daily News reports Bengals WR Chad Johnson had a blast with the New England Patriots media on Wednesday. They know he got triple covered by the Pittsburgh Steelers, and that's why he was held to one catch for 11 yards in the Bengals' 28-20 victory. But the Steelers couldn't stop WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh (9 catches, 94 yards, 2 TDs) and WR Chris Henry (5 catches, 69 yards, 2 TDs). "Oh, yeah, they are balling out of control," Johnson said about his teammates in a conference call. "I'm looking at the play getting ready to develop because we have (cornerback) Ike Taylor in my face. We have (linebacker) Joey Porter running to the flat. And (safety) Troy Polamalu all the way over the top trying to cover the deep ball. "I really didn't have to run. All I needed was some popcorn and watch 84 and 15 just go to work while I was on the side. It was nice. It was a beautiful game and I really enjoyed myself."Read more
