Hartwell practices; Abraham may try Thursday

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Falcons middle LB Ed Hartwell practiced for the first time this regular season Wednesday, saying that a month after having both of his knees arthroscopically repaired he feels better than he has "in two years." Whether that means he is well enough to play Sunday when the Falcons (2-1) play host to the Arizona Cardinals has yet to be determined, but Hartwell said if the determination were his, he would start. "Fortunately, it's not my call," Hartwell said. "We'll see how I respond to the pounding I did [Wednesday] and hopefully I'll be out there Sunday, rolling." DE John Abraham, who HC Jim Mora said Tuesday is close to returning from a groin injury that has sidelined him the past two games, was excused from practice to attend a funeral.
