Lions discard Bradford

The Detroit Free reports the Lions released WR Corey Bradford on Wednesday so they could sign OL Blaine Saipaia -- even though that means they will pay Bradford almost $1 million per game (or per catch). Bradford was the first free agent the Lions obtained in the off-season, signing a four-year deal. He will receive his signing bonus of $2 million and base salary of $800,000 for this season -- a total of $2.8 million. He played three games. He caught three passes for 36 yards in the opener, then none in the next two games. Read more

Texans' Williams knows he must do more

The Houston Chronicle reports if rookie DE Mario Williams responds to Miami on Sunday the way he responded Wednesday to criticism from Texans HC Gary Kubiak, he may show the Dolphins why he was the first pick in the draft. On Monday, Kubiak said he was disappointed in Williams' performance in the 31-15 loss to Washington that dropped the Texans' record to 0-3. On Wednesday, Williams admitted to the media that he was guilty as charged and vowed to rebound against Miami. Read more

Sanders out again?

The Indianapolis Star reports the Colts may be without Pro Bowl S Bob Sanders for a second straight game. HC Tony Dungy said Sanders is being bothered by injuries to a knee and thigh. "It's really more his mobility,'' Dungy said. Asked if Sanders had undergone surgery to address the knee injury, Dungy wouldn't elaborate. "That I don't know for sure,'' he said. Read more

Wayne likely to play Sunday

The Indianapolis Star reports WR Reggie Wayne is expected back at the Indianapolis Colts' Union Federal Football Center today and likely will play Sunday against the New York Jets. The team's veteran wide receiver has been in New Orleans with his family since Sunday evening when he learned his brother, Rashad, had been killed in a traffic accident in Kenner, La. Read more
