Jones to start in place of Givens

The Nashville Tennessean reports Titans WR Brandon Jones will start against the Colts on Sunday after WR David Givens had surgery on his injured left thumb. Givens had a pin placed in the thumb, which he injured last Sunday against the Cowboys. HC Jeff Fisher said Givens could miss several weeks. Read more

Colts lose Simon for rest of season

The Indianapolis Star reports DT Corey Simon's season is over and his playing future uncertain because of an unspecified illness unrelated to his knee injury. Indianapolis Colts president Bill Polian announced Thursday that the team's veteran defensive tackle was placed on the NFL's non-football illness/injury list, ending his season. Citing Simon's privacy and federal medical privacy laws, the team did not elaborate on the nature of the illness other than to insist it was "not football-related.'' "Fortunately, we are told it is not life-threatening, but it has severely limited Corey's ability to condition, practice or play and has been debilitating for him,'' Polian said in a statement released by the team. Stroud's streak to end Sunday

The Florida Times-Union reports the Jaguars made it official Thursday. DT Marcus Stroud's string of 84 consecutive games played, which dates back to his rookie year in 2001, will end Sunday. Jacksonville declared him out for the New York Jets game with groin and ankle injuries, which means he'll have two weeks to rest because of the bye next week. Read more

Panthers add LB Davis

The Charlotte Observer reports the Panthers have signed 6-foot-2, 238-pound free-agent LB Rod Davis. Although Davis can play the strong side and the middle, he's expected to have his greatest impact on special teams. Read more
