Winfield to play

Minnesota Vikings
10/07/2006 9:58 AM
The Pioneer Press reports CB Antoine Winfield's injured left quadriceps passed its first practice test Friday, and he said it wouldn't keep him from starting Sunday's game against Detroit. The Vikings list Winfield as questionable, but he said practice went well and there should be no need to limit his snaps. "I felt it every now and then, (but) I definitely should be able to deal with the consequences," he said. "If I couldn't play, I would definitely let them know. I'll be out there." Read more

GM's roster decision backfires

Green Bay Packers
10/07/2006 9:54 AM
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the Green Bay Packers have been playing one man short all season because of a roster decision regarding CB Will Blackmon that was highly questionable when made Sept. 2 and looks even worse now. GM Ted Thompson admits that Blackmon should have spent the first six weeks of the regular season on the physically unable to perform list. "In hindsight, yeah, absolutely it would probably have made more sense to go 'PUP,' " Thompson said Friday. "But I didn't have the luxury of that at the time." Thompson was referring to what he says is a complication during Blackmon's rehabilitation that has caused him to be out longer than anticipated. Read more

Tennessee Titans

The Nashville Tennessean reports the Titans are attempting to recoup part of suspended DT Albert Haynesworth's bonus money, claiming he is in default of his contract by missing time with the team. The Titans gave written notification to Haynesworth's agent, Chad Speck, and the NFL Players Association received a copy of the letter. "It's standard business in the NFL," Speck said. "Albert was aware that it would happen. We're expecting another notice that details the amount the team is seeking.'' The NFL suspended Haynes-worth for five games on Monday for deliberately stepping on the helmetless head of Cowboys C Andre Gurode during Sunday's game at LP Field. Read more

Daunte's injury a concern

Miami Dolphins
10/07/2006 9:42 AM
The Palm Beach Post reports Dolphins HC Nick Saban said Friday that if QB Daunte Culpepper doesn't start Sunday at New England it will be because of injury, not the team's 1-3 record. "If we were 4-0 right now," Saban said, "we would be having the same conversation, OK?" Saban indicated that he might not decide until Sunday morning whether to go with Culpepper or No. 2 QB Joey Harrington. Culpepper went through a routine practice Friday but missed part of Thursday's session because of a sore throwing shoulder. He was listed as probable for Sunday on the team's injury report, which usually means a player will take the field. Read more
