Hartwell Could Miss Opener

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Falcons middle LB Ed Hartwell is questionable for the season opener at Carolina Sept. 10 and possibly the home opener the following week against Tampa Bay after having arthroscopic surgery to both knees Monday. Johnson, Dvoracek out for the season

The Chicago Sun-Times reports the Bears met today's 75-man roster limit by ending the season of two players. FB Bryan Johnson and rookie DT Dusty Dvoracek were placed on season-ending injured reserve. Johnson had surgery on his right hamstring a week ago, a relatively new procedure designed to help him heal quicker, and the original word he got was that he would be back on the field next month. Palmer passes first test

The Dayton Daily News reports QB Carson Palmer dropped back and passed. He took off and ran — then slid. And his reconstructed left knee held up just as strong as his mighty right arm. Palmer threw three touchdown passes and led four scoring drives Monday night as the Bengals kept their preseason record unblemished with a 48-17 victory over the Green Bay Packers in a game halted for 39 minutes because of lightning at 9:09 of the fourth quarter at Paul Brown Stadium. The 48 points is a club scoring record for a preseason game. Team officials called the delay a first for a home game in the 39-year history of the Bengals franchise. Read more

Eagles Acquire Stallworth from Saints

AP reports the Philadelphia Eagles have acquired WR Donte Stallworth from the New Orleans Saints. The Eagles sent veteran LB Mark Simoneau and a conditional fourth-round draft pick in 2007 to the Saints. The trade is pending both players passing physicals with their new team. Read more
