Gaffney re-signs with Patriots

AP reports the New England Patriots re-signed veteran WR Jabar Gaffney on Wednesday. The 27-year-old Gaffney played four seasons with the Houston Texans before he signed with the Patriots as a free agent in October 2006. Last season, he played in 16 games with seven starts and caught 36 passes for 449 yards and a career-high five touchdowns. In his career, he has caught 218 passes for 2,600 yards and 13 touchdowns. Falcons cut QB Harrington

AP reports the Falcons, who cut QB Byron Leftwich earlier this offseason, released QB Joey Harrington on Wednesday. Harrington completed 215 of 348 passes last season. He threw for 2,215 yards with seven touchdowns and eight interceptions. Read more

Browns' recently acquired DT gets 6-year deal

ESPN’s John Clayton reports the Cleveland Browns moved quickly to acquire former Detroit Lions DT Shaun Rogers after a trade with the Bengals was nixed, and moved just as fast in securing him to a long-term contract. Rogers and the Browns agreed to a six-year, $42 million deal on Wednesday, a restructuring that will keep him in Cleveland until 2013. With his existing contract scheduled to expire in 2010, three years and a guaranteed $20 million were added to make the deal work. Under terms of the new contract, Rogers will make $23 million over the first three years. Read more

Falcons DT re-injures knee in freak accident

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Defensive tackle just became an even bigger need for the Falcons. DT Trey Lewis re-injured his surgically repaired right knee in a freak accident and will require additional surgery, according to his agent, Richard Katz. He's having some surgery this week," Katz said. "Basically, he's lost the three months that he's been rehabbing." Lewis suffered the latest setback coming down a set of stairs. He first injured his knee, a torn anterior cruciate ligament against Tampa Bay on Nov. 18. Read more
