Williams, Jaguars agree to four-year contract

ESPN’s John Clayton reports a year ago, the Jacksonville Jaguars were willing to part with OT Maurice Williams after the signing of right tackle Tony Pathos, but now they can't operate without him. Williams, 29, reached an agreement Thursday morning to stay in Jacksonville and play on the offensive line. He agreed in principle to a four-year, $16 million deal that included $4 million in guarantees. Depending on how much the team uses him, he could make another $500,000 a year. Read more

Eagles cut Spikes after one season in Philadelphia

AP reports the Eagles have released two-time Pro Bowl LB Takeo Spikes. The 10-year veteran played one season in Philadelphia and finished second on the team with 139 tackles. Spikes missed the final two games last year after having shoulder surgery. Read more

Panthers sign Brayton

AP reports the Carolina Panthers have added depth to their defensive line by coming to terms with free-agent DE Tyler Brayton on a two-year deal.  Brayton's agent, Tom Mills, said Wednesday the defensive end chose Carolina after getting an offer from the Indianapolis Colts. Brayton was Oakland's first-round pick in 2003, but managed only six sacks in five seasons as the Raiders struggled to find a spot for him. Brayton moved from defensive end to linebacker to defensive tackle. He did not start a game last season. Read more
