Steelers sign new center

The Post-Gazette reports for the second time in little more than a year, the Steelers signed a free agent they expect to become their starting center, one of three moves made yesterday to strengthen their offensive line. C Justin Hartwig, released last week by Carolina even though he was their starting center, came to a two-year contract agreement with the Steelers for $3,725,000 and a signing bonus of $975,000. Bengals sign franchise player Andrews

The Cincinnati Bengals have signed G/OT Stacy Andrews, who was designated last month as the team’s franchise player. Andrews (6-7, 342; Mississippi) is a fifth-year NFL player in 2008. He exercised his option to sign a one-year contract for a salary equal to the average of the top five offensive linemen in the NFL in 2007. Read more

Colts re-sign Johnson

The Indianapolis Colts have re-signed unrestricted free agent DE Josh Thomas.  Thomas, entering his fifth season, was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Colts in 2004 out of Syracuse. Thomas started seven of 15 games in 2007, filling in for injured DE Dwight Freeney.  He totaled a career-high 55 tackles, 33 solo, along with one sack, 14 pressures, one forced fumble and three batted passes.  In 52 career games with nine starts, Thomas has collected 137 tackles, 92 solo, six sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovered and three batted passes. Eagles sign Klecko

AP reports DL Dan Klecko signed a two-year contract Monday with the Philadelphia Eagles, who plan to convert him from defensive tackle to fullback. The 275-pound Klecko has played defensive tackle and special teams and served as a short-yardage fullback for the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts. The Eagles will use Klecko as a full-time fullback. Read more
