Texans give QB Gray closer look

The Houston Chronicle reports the last time Jacksonville Jaguars QB Quinn Gray visited Reliant Stadium, he threw four touchdown passes. The Texans obviously haven't forgotten. Gray will visit with the team Sunday at Reliant Stadium. The Texans are looking to possibly carry three quarterbacks next season — something they haven't done the past two seasons under coach Gary Kubiak. There also has been interest from teams wanting to trade for backup QB Sage Rosenfels. Minnesota offered a third-round pick, but the Texans want more in return. No trades for the QB are imminent. Cowboys discuss deal for Pacman Jones

The Dallas Morning News reports the Dallas Cowboys have held preliminary discussions with the Tennessee Titans about trading for suspended CB Adam "Pacman" Jones, according to a source. The Cowboys could give up a late-round draft pick to acquire Jones. According to a source, Titans officials are not in a hurry to make a deal but realize the best way to move on without Jones is to trade him. Jones told his Atlanta-based agent, Manny Arora, if traded he would put the Cowboys near the top of the list of teams he would play for. Read more

Romberg re-signs; cornerback is added

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports C Brett Romberg has had to fight and scrape for everything he could get in the NFL. That theme held true for Romberg this offseason during the free agency period. Hoping for some degree of job security with a multi-year deal, Romberg instead agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Rams, with whom he spent most of the past two seasons. Also Thursday, the Rams signed free-agent CB David Macklin to a one-year deal and visited with free-agent WR Reche Caldwell, who could sign in the next day or so. Read more

RB Sapp takes cut to stay

The Denver Post reports for all the problems the Broncos experienced in winning games in 2007 and meeting the budget in 2008, they must be doing something right. Given a choice, Broncos players have developed a pattern of accepting a pay cut to stay rather than leave for more money.  The latest example was free-agent FB Cecil Sapp, who will return for the 2008 season after agreeing to a one-year $605,000 salary and $40,000 signing bonus Thursday. "In one place in particular, they offered him more money," said Dave Canter, Sapp's agent. "But Cecil told me, 'I could make more money playing football elsewhere, but I may not have the experience or the closeness that I have in Denver.' " Read more
