Colts Sign Polian to Extension

AP reports the Indianapolis Colts have signed president Bill Polian to a contract extension through 2011. The Polian-led Colts have posted a 105-55 regular-season record over the past 10 seasons, reached the playoffs eight times and won the Super Bowl after the 2006 season. Team owner Jim Irsay confirmed through a spokeswoman Wednesday that the extension has been finalized. The 65-year-old Polian was hired in 1998 to oversee all on-field operations. Read more

OL Olson retires after 10 seasons with Titans

AP reports OL Benji Olson decided to leave college a year early in 1998 because the offensive lineman wasn't sure how long his back would hold up in the NFL. He announced his retirement Thursday having lasted 10 years with only three interior linemen playing more games than Olson in that stretch. Not bad for a guy hoping to last maybe five seasons. Browns sign LB Kris Griffin to a one-year contract

The BigCProfootball.com reports the Cleveland Browns have signed LB Kris Griffin to a one-year contract. Griffin played in 12 games last season for the Browns and was a key member of the special teams unit. Read more

Trufant agrees with Seahawks on long-term deal

ESPN John Clayton reports Seattle Seahawks CB Marcus Trufant was ready to add to his long-term commitments. Trufant reached a six-year, $50.2 million deal with the Seahawks on Wednesday that includes $20 million in guarantees. In the first three years of the contract, he will make $28 million. All along, Trufant wanted to stay in Seattle. He grew up in Tacoma, was drafted 11th overall in 2003 out of Washington State, and remains involved with the community. The temporary roadblock was the franchise tag, which the Seahawks applied Feb. 20. Trufant's hope was to hit the free-agent market and give the Seahawks a chance to match. But the franchise tag gave the Seahawks all of the leverage in the negotiations. Read more
