Panthers attend private workout by Mendenhall

The Charlotte Observer reports Carolina Panthers officials held a private workout on campus today with Illinois RB Rashard Mendenhall (5, at right). Mendenhall is rated the No. 2 back available in the draft and could be a good fit in the Panthers' offense with his size (5-10, 225 pounds), power and breakaway explosiveness. The Panthers have the 13th pick in the first round, and Mendenhall is projected to go somewhere been picks 7 and 15. It is believed that Carolina sent its top officials to the workout, including GM Marty Hurney and HC John Fox. Read more

Cowboys increase offer; Fisher says Titans ready to cut ties

ESPN.com reports after their initial trade offer of a seventh-round draft pick for Tennessee Titans CB Adam "Pacman" Jones was declined, the Dallas Cowboys have added a player to their proposal, according to a report on SI.com Thursday. The Titans are considering the deal but need to address some financial issues before they accept the offer, according to the report. Jones has two years left on his original five-year, $30 million contract, and the Cowboys want to redo the deal, likely to one year. Read more

Cards, ex-Steeler Haggans strike deal

The Arizona Republic reports the Cardinals have agreed to terms with former Steelers outside LB Clark Haggans. Haggans, an unrestricted free agent, is expected to sign a one-year deal pending a physical on Wednesday. The Cardinals had been seeking help at that position through free agency. Read more

Texans look to add Ferguson

The Houston Chronicle reports the Texans continue to target one of their biggest areas of need — the secondary — in free agency. The Texans are expected to add another former Denver Broncos player to their roster by signing S Nick Ferguson, 33, as early as today. Ferguson (5-11, 201) appeared in 12 games for the Broncos last season, starting seven. A knee injury landed the eight-year veteran on injured reserve in December. The Texans also will meet with CB Andre Dyson, 28, at Reliant Stadium today. Dyson (5-10, 183) is entering his eighth season. Read more
