After doling out more than $140 million this offseason to acquire new players via free agency and a trade, the Jets yesterday agreed with S Kerry Rhodes on a five-year, $33.5 million contract extension that includes $20 million guaranteed. The contract puts Rhodes among the highest-paid safeties in the NFL. Colts Pro Bowl safety Bob Sanders signed a five-year, $37.5 million deal with $20 million guaranteed this offseason.Read more
Atlanta Falcons 04/10/2008 1:07 PMThe Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Falcons LB Michael Boley signed his restricted-free-agent contract tender with the team, the Falcons announced Wednesday night. Terms of the deal were not announced. The signing takes Boley off the free-agent market. The Falcons had placed a first-round tender on Boley before the free-agency period began Feb. 29, which meant that Boley could seek offers from other teams, but the Falcons would get a first-round pick in this month's draft if they refused to match any offer.Read more
Jacksonville Jaguars 04/08/2008 4:30 PMAP reports QB David Garrard has signed a contract extension with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Terms of Monday's deal were not released. But Garrard and his agent, Albert Irby, had been looking for something similar to the six-year, $67.5 million contract Dallas QB Tony Romo signed last season. The 30-year-old Garrard is coming off his best season. He completed 64 percent of his passes for 2,509 yards and 18 touchdowns despite missing three games because of an ankle injury. He threw just three interceptions and finished with the NFL's third-highest passer rating (102.2).Read more
