Denver Broncos 04/24/2008 7:54 PMESPN’s Bill Williamson reports the New York Jets traded DT Dewayne Robertson to the Denver Broncos on Thursday. The compensation to the Jets is a conditional 2009 draft choice, believed to be a mid-round pick, dependant upon Robertson's playing time. The two teams have been talking about a trade since mid-March. Earlier this month, New York gave Denver permission to talk to Robertson about a new contract and the two sides had agreed on a restructured contract. Yet the Broncos and Jets continued to plow toward agreeing on a compensation package and came to an accord Thursday.Read more
St. Louis Rams 04/24/2008 8:38 AMThe St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports with team president John Shaw scheduled to arrive in St. Louis in the wee hours Wednesday evening, the Rams' draft preparations are entering the final phase. Rams coaches, scouts and personnel officials have finished stacking the team's draft board, round by round. Shaw will be immersed in draft meetings today, discussing possible scenarios with coach Scott Linehan, president of football operations-general manager Jay Zygmunt, and executive vice president of player personnel Billy Devaney. Finally, the team is expected to zero in on its pick at No. 2 overall by Friday. At this point, all signs seem to be pointing to Louisiana State DT Glenn Dorsey as the Rams' choice. But there is also sentiment for DE Chris Long of Virginia, and to a lesser degree Ohio State's Vernon Gholston.Read more
San Francisco 49ers 04/24/2008 8:28 AMThe Mercury News reports Jerry Rice, who knows a thing or two about NFL receivers, suggested this week that the 49ers would be wise to use their first-round pick on WR DeSean Jackson. After being hired to work out with the Cal jitterbug during the off-season, Rice concluded that Jackson's dizzying array of after-the-catch moves makes his small frame irrelevant. "He's another Devin Hester - but a better receiver," Rice said, referring to the Chicago Bears' special-teams dynamo. Hester is listed at 5-foot-11 and 186 pounds; Jackson concedes he is closer to 5-10 and 170. Teams will have to gamble that the former Cal star is sturdy enough for the NFL. The question is: Do the 49ers want to be the ones to roll the dice?Read more
Green Bay Packers 04/24/2008 8:21 AMThe Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports before the weekend is out, the Green Bay Packers will have a quarterback other than Aaron Rodgers, Jerry Baab and Dalton Bell on their roster. It may just be veteran free agent QB Daunte Culpepper. After having the former Oakland, Miami and Minnesota quarterback in for a visit Wednesday, the Packers are seriously considering adding him to their roster. Culpepper is the only free agent left on the market with the talent to be a starter and the Packers, unsure of what the draft this weekend will provide, decided to call him.Read more
