Two grand? Peterson sets sights on elite

Minnesota Vikings
05/16/2008 8:48 AM
The Star Tribune reports the Vikings don't report to training camp for another two months, but it's clear RB Adrian Peterson has put plenty of thought into what he can do for an encore in his second NFL season. That 1,341-yard rushing performance (second in the league) and 12 touchdowns by the running back in 2007? The Offensive Rookie of the Year honors? That is so passé. Peterson's goals for 2008 include a 2,000-yard campaign, an improvement on the 19 catches he had last season and, perhaps, an MVP trophy. "I definitely feel like I can do it," Peterson said Thursday when asked about being voted the league's top player. "Anything is possible. Especially with how my mindset is. I set my bar high. I expect a lot from myself. I'm surrounded by a great group of guys offensively and defensively on both sides, special teams, so it's possible for anything to happen." Read more

Harrison at camp today?

Indianapolis Colts
05/16/2008 8:41 AM
The Indianapolis Star reports the Indianapolis Colts will convene this morning for the start of a mandatory three-day minicamp, and as far as coach Tony Dungy knows, that will include WR Marvin Harrison. Asked if the team's eight-time Pro Bowl receiver would be at the Colts' Westside complex, coach Tony Dungy said, "I'm assuming he will." A Colts spokesman said Thursday the team would have no further comment on the participation of Harrison or any other player. Harrison, 35, has been questioned by Philadelphia police about an April 29 shooting in his old North Philadelphia neighborhood. A 32-year-old man was shot in the hand, and a 2-year-old boy sustained a cut below his eye when a stray bullet shattered a car windshield. An investigation is ongoing, and police have said that Harrison has been cooperative and is not considered a suspect at this time. Read more

The Florida Times-Union reports the Jaguars are batting .500 in signing defensive linemen. DT Rob Meier, in his final year of his current contract with a base salary of $2.095 million, agreed to a four-year contract extension Thursday that locks him up through the 2012 season. But the team has been unable to reach an extension with DE Paul Spicer. Spicer and middle LB Mike Peterson are the only defensive starters whose contracts expire at the end of this season. Read more

The Nashville Tennessean reports Titans OT David Stewart has signed a one-year deal with the team, but both sides remain hopeful of reaching a long-term deal at some point.
