Jerious Norwood's role expanding

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Falcons RB Jerious Norwood is entering his third season, and he's hearing the same projections of an increased role that he heard the previous two. The slow-talking, fast-running Norwood is guardedly optimistic that this coaching staff, unlike others, will finally get the ball in his hands enough for him to fulfill his game-changing potential. "I'm still going to keep the same mentality that I have since I've been here, which is compete, be the best I can be, so when my time comes I can deliver," said Norwood, who will backup free-agent acquisition Michael Turner. Veteran Nalen has surgery to repair left knee

The Denver Post reports Broncos C Tom Nalen underwent arthroscopic surgery Friday afternoon to repair a torn cartilage in his left knee. Nalen, 37, will be out at least until the team's final minicamp July 7-8, but should return by the start of training camp July 25. "He should be full speed by the time we go to camp," Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said. With Jason Elam now kicking for the Atlanta Falcons and receiver Rod Smith all but officially retired, Nalen is the Broncos' longest tenured player as he enters his 15th season. Read more

Bill Parcells and Jason Taylor chat face-to-face for 90 minutes

The Palm Beach Post reports Dolphins football operations chief Bill Parcells said he wasn't wearing his hearing aids the last time he and DE Jason Taylor were in the same room. On Thursday, Parcells was all ears. Parcells and Taylor finally met to hash out their differences, sitting down for about 90 minutes at Grande Oaks Golf Club in Fort Lauderdale, multiple sources told The Palm Beach Post. Details of the conversation were not immediately known - the team had no comment - but they didn't bridge their differences enough for Taylor to show up today for the start of this weekend's mandatory mini-camp. Gradkowski picked up by Rams off waivers

The Toledo Blade reports former University of Toledo star QB Bruce Gradkowski, who was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers May 30, was claimed off NFL waivers Thursday by the St. Louis Rams just before the free agent deadline. Gradkowski is expected to compete with quarterbacks Trent Green and Brock Berlin for a backup position behind Marc Bulger. Read more
