The Star-Ledger reports DE Osi Umenyiora walked out of the practice bubble yesterday, the smile on his face glistening almost as brightly as the sweat on his forehead after an organized team activities practice. "Did you know?" he was asked. "Know what?" Umenyiora replied. "Strahan retired." Umenyiora's eyes shifted across the parking lot to the Meadowlands Racetrack in the hazy distance. He kept walking, his smile and his ability to speak gone in an instant. He offered only one shake of his head -- an answer to the question and a gesture of disbelief that one of the greatest players in Giants history had called it a career. Read more

Former first-round pick waived after second alcohol-related arrest

AP reports Chicago Bears RB Cedric Benson was released Monday following his second alcohol-related arrest in a month. "Cedric displayed a pattern of behavior we will not tolerate," General Manager Jerry Angelo said in a statement. "As I said this past weekend, you have to protect your job. Texans release Gray and Black

The official website of the Houston Texans reports the Texans released QB Quinn Gray and OT Jordan Black Monday in an effort to trim down their roster to 80 players before training camp. “It is going to be increasingly more difficult (to make these cuts) as teams try to figure out how many guys at their positions that they are going to take to training camp,” general manager Rick Smith said. “We decided on the number we want to take, and it just felt like at this point he (Gray) did not have a good chance of making it. So we wanted to give him the opportunity to make it with another team.” Read more
