Jacksonville Jaguars 06/18/2008 8:05 AMThe Florida Times-Union reports the Jaguars closed the book on their decision to draft DE Brian Smith last year and virtually handed the long-snapper job to veteran Joe Zelenka on Monday. The team waived five players as they sliced their roster to the 80-player limit for training camp. The Jaguars cut both Smith, a fourth-round selection in 2007, and long snapper Brett Goode, leaving Zelenka as the only long snapper on the roster. They also cut former Florida State WR Craphonso Thorpe, OT Ryan Gibbons and TE Isaac Smolko.Read more
Tennessee Titans 06/18/2008 8:01 AMThe Nashville Tennessean reports with talks regarding a long-term contract going nowhere, the agent for Titans DT Albert Haynesworth has proposed an alternative. Haynesworth would sign a one-year tender and in return the Titans would agree not to franchise-tag him next season. There has been no significant movement from the Titans on a long-term deal since prior to the Combine in February and I don't think this will change before July 15,'' agent Chad Speck said in an e-mail. "We have spoken several times in the past few weeks and our conversations have recently focused on an idea that I proposed in March which would require Albert to sign the tender but in return the Titans would agree not to use the franchise tag on him again next year.''Read more

Atlanta Falcons 06/18/2008 7:52 AMThe Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the Falcons released S Jimmy Williams Tuesday, parting with their top pick of the 2006 NFL Draft. "It's a football decision," head coach Mike Smith said. "It's a decision we made. We've been evaluating." Though Williams once was perceived as a potential impact player, he never found his way with the Falcons in two seasons. Things further declined this offseason when Williams reported to workouts weighing more than 230 pounds. He also missed two of three days of a voluntary minicamp.Read more
