Browns among teams interested in Chargers receiver

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports the signing of WR Mark Jones yesterday, in itself, is not a big deal. Jones, a receiver and punt returner, faces a major challenge making the Chargers' opening day roster. But the presence of the four-year veteran gives the Chargers yet another option at receiver, where they will by training camp be without one of their most prolific and dependable pass catchers over the past five years. Sources said yesterday the Chargers have fielded calls from several teams about trading WR Eric Parker and that Parker will be traded or released by the start of training camp next month. GM A.J. DUI charge mars Kearse's return

The Nashville Tennessean reports DE Jevon Kearse’s feel-good homecoming story was interrupted early Sunday when the Titans defensive end was charged with driving under the influence. At the moment Kearse’s Cadillac Escalade was pulled over by Vanderbilt police at 4:42 a.m., everything changed for him, at least for the time being. Conversations about his return to the Titans were instead replaced by talk of the first black mark off the field for the 10-year pro. He was widely popular with fans from his first go-around with the organization from 1999 to 2003, helping lead the team to its only Super Bowl appearance. A police mug shot of Kearse, 31, was surely the last thing the Titans or their fans wanted to see one month before the start of training camp. Read more

Texans sign 6th-round pick Barber

The Houston Chronicle reports rookie Dominique Barber has signed with the Texans, becoming the team's first drafted rookie to do so. Barber, a safety from Minnesota, was selected in the sixth round. In college, Barber started 24 of the 26 games in which he played. He finished with 191 tackles and four interceptions. He will enter training camp fighting for a roster spot at one of the team's most competitive positions. The Texans also have C.C. Brown, Will Demps, Glenn Earl, Nick Ferguson, Brandon Mitchell and Brandon Harrison at safety. Read more

Johnson has surgery

Cincinnati Bengals WR Chad Johnson underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right ankle today in Cincinnati. The procedure was performed by Bengals orthopedic surgeon Angelo Colosimo, and was completed without complication. Johnson’s ankle is expected to be ready in time for training camp. The Bengals report to training camp at Georgetown (Ky.) College on July 27, with the first practice scheduled on July 28. Read more
