Indianapolis Colts 09/16/2008 8:56 AMThe Indianapolis Star reports wide receivers Anthony Gonzalez and Reggie Wayne alternated working from the slot Sunday in the Indianapolis Colts' three-wide receiver sets. Gonzalez, who usually plays inside, caught nine passes for 137 yards and seven first downs to help the Colts beat host Minnesota 18-15. Wayne, who more often has split wide, had five receptions for 93 yards and a touchdown. "It was our best way to go based on the injuries we had, how they were playing, how the game developed," coach Tony Dungy said Monday. "We'll continue to look at that. "I'm always looking at what's giving us the best opportunity to win," Childress said, repeating one of his favorite mantras. "If it's Tarvaris, it's Tarvaris. If it's Gus Frerotte, it's Gus Frerotte. Carolina Panthers 09/16/2008 8:49 AMThe Charlotte Observer reports Carolina Panthers receiver Steve Smith returned to Bank of America Stadium on Monday morning after serving a two-game suspension for punching teammate Ken Lucas in training camp. At his mid-day news conference, coach John Fox said he spoke to Smith on the telephone, but didn't see him. Monday and today are days off for the Panthers this week. Smith will practice for the first time on Wednesday.Read more
