Larry Johnson won't play Sunday for the Chiefs

The Kansas City Star reports Chiefs running back Larry Johnson, who has been charged with simple assault for a February scuffle, will be inactive for Sunday's game against Tennessee at Arrowhead Stadium. Coach Herm Edwards said Johnson was not suspended but broke team rules. Johnson, who practiced with the team again today, will return for next week’s game at the New York Jets, Edwards said. AP reports TE Tony Gonzalez, the most productive tight end in NFL history, will be traded to a contender if the Kansas City Chiefs get the right price. Three people familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on condition of anonymity that the nine-time Pro Bowl player could be dealt before the Tuesday trade deadline. The sources didn't want to be identified because a deal hasn't been struck. Read more

The official website of the Minnesota Vikings reports starting MLB E.J. Henderson was placed on injured reserve and is out for the season. Henderson injured his foot against the Tennessee Titans last week. Read more

Coach Lewis appears safe in Cincinnati

NFL.com's Adam Schefter reports Bengals management has informed head coach Marvin Lewis that he is welcome to coach in Cincinnati as long as wants, according to a high-level Bengals source. It is as strong an indication to date that ownership has absolutely no plans to fire its head coach, certainly not now. As it is, Lewis has two years remaining on his contract after this season. The Bengals are not in the business of writing any head coach a check through the 2010 season to sit on the sideline. So instead, Lewis will continue patrolling there, even as speculation has begun to swirl that he could be on the firing line. Read more
