Colts issue statement on Manning's surgeries

The Indianapolis Star reports after weeks of information, and in some cases misinformation, trickling out about QB Peyton Manning's offseason surgery on his left knee, the Colts issued a statement Friday to clarify the situation. Manning had surgery July 14 to remove an infection from his left pre-patella bursa. Asked on Thursday if it was staph, he replied, "It was, yeah, just because of the fluids that were hanging in there. I just had one infection. "So it was the first surgery to remove the staph infection of the bursa sac. Once they took it out, the infection was gone." A follow-up operation approximately two weeks later was not due to continued or additional infection, according to the team, and did not delay his return to the practice field. Browns accuse Kellen Winslow of verbally abusing public relations official

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports in a copy of Kellen Winslow's suspension letter obtained by The Plain Dealer, it's revealed Winslow was not only suspended by the Browns for statements they felt were disparaging to the club, but also for what the team described as "profane verbal abuse of a Club's public relations member in the locker room" following the game at Washington. Tomlin upbeat about Polamalu

The Post-Gazette reports coach Mike Tomlin said he expects S Troy Polamalu to practice today and play Sunday against the New York Giants, even though the coach confirmed Polamalu sustained a concussion in the fourth quarter against Cincinnati. "As of right now, we anticipate him playing," Tomlin said yesterday. "Tests are favorable at this point. He's slated to practice tomorrow. We'll see how he goes." Read more

Dallas Cowboys' Tony Romo says he won't play Sunday

The Star-Telegram reports despite the best efforts and intentions from both QB Tony Romo and team trainers, the NFL’s most famous right pinkie is not going to allow an early return for the Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback. In an interview Tuesday night on the radio show Inside The Huddle With Terrell Owens at the House of Blues in downtown Dallas, Romo ruled himself out for Sunday’s game. He was more vague about the game against the New York Giants on Nov. 2 in New York. The bye is Nov. 9. As for practice, that’s a to-be-determined. Read more
