UT alum Griffin brings tough 'D' to WR Johnson

Houston Texans
11/03/2008 2:47 PM
The Houston Chronicle reports Texans WR Andre Johnson put together one of the best months in NFL history in October. But November started slowly against the Vikings. With former Longhorn Cedric Griffin constantly on top of Johnson, the Texans’ top receiver finished with just four catches for 62 yards and a touchdown.  “I guess their coach just told them, ‘Just beat him up,’” Johnson said. “At the line, I got thrown down a couple of times. “It was one of my more difficult games. I think they did a great job. I think they had a good game plan. “It kind of got me a bit frustrated. And when you get frustrated, it kind of has an effect on your game a little bit.” Read more

Kansas City Chiefs
10/29/2008 7:22 PM
The Kansas City Star reports RB Larry Johnson met Tuesday in New York with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to discuss Johnson’s recent brushes with trouble, which could lead to a suspension for Kansas City’s embattled rusher. The league has not yet ruled on a suspension, but Chiefs coach Herm Edwards said nothing Tuesday to indicate that Johnson would return to the lineup Sunday against Tampa Bay. Other than that, Edwards said all he could do was wait and see — like everyone else — what happens to Johnson. “They’ll do what’s right for the league,” he said. “That’s what they always do. Whatever the commissioner decides to do, we’ll stand behind him 100 percent. I know this organization does. He’ll do what’s right. “It will all work out, whatever they decide.” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said late Tuesday afternoon that the league had no announcement regarding Johnson’s situation and that there was no timetable for any such announcement. Jackson's thigh injury has Rams less optimistic he'll play

St. Louis Rams
10/29/2008 7:13 PM
AP reports St Louis coach Jim Haslett was optimistic early in the week about Steven Jackson's return, but now it looks like the running back's thigh injury is healing more slowly than the Rams hoped. Haslett was guarded Wednesday after Jackson began practice with the first unit but then had his work scaled back. Jackson leads the Rams (2-5) in rushing with 508 yards and four touchdowns, and is one reception off the team lead with 25 catches and a 10.4-yard average. "That's going to be a day-to-day thing, just see how he feels when he's running," Haslett said. "But he did a couple of things today and I think he did OK." Read more
