Wayne keeps his eye on the ball

Indianapolis Colts
11/10/2008 1:02 PM
The Indianapolis Star reports WR Reggie Wayne was good Sunday at Heinz Field. He had six receptions, 114 yards and one touchdown in the Indianapolis Colts' 24-20 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also was lucky. On his 65-yard touchdown, Wayne adjusted when Peyton Manning's pass along the left sideline was underthrown and went through the hands of Steelers cornerback Ike Taylor. Wayne secured the deflection, spun away from safety Ryan Clark and sprinted to the end zone for the longest play allowed by Pittsburgh this season. Wayne snatched another pass deflected by Taylor in the third quarter, that time gaining 16 yards. Read more

Parker's bad shoulder adds to injury woes

Pittsburgh Steelers
11/10/2008 12:59 PM
The Post-Gazette reports RB Willie Parker may need surgery to his injured shoulder after the season, but he's likely to play against the San Diego Chargers Sunday at Heinz Field. Parker has a torn labrum in his shoulder, but sources told the Post-Gazette he likely will return after missing the game yesterday. "We are hopeful that he will be well enough to play next week," coach Mike Tomlin said after the game. Parker's latest injury occurred last Monday night in Washington, when he ran 21 times for 70 yards. It's his third significant injury in his past five games. His fibula was broken in the 15th game last season, and a sprained knee in the third game this season kept him out until last Monday. Read more

Williams runs to breakout season

Carolina Panthers
11/10/2008 9:50 AM
The Charlotte Observer reports RB DeAngelo Williams is on pace to become the Panthers' first 1,000-yard rusher since Stephen Davis gained 1,444 in 2003 and only the third in franchise history (Anthony Johnson had 1,120 in 1996). Williams' Wednesday motivation stems from a game last season against Arizona, when he broke off a 75-yard run. Tiring, Williams was caught by the Cardinals' Adrian Wilson before he could score. It doesn't matter to Williams that the run against the Cardinals was the longest from scrimmage in Panthers history: He didn't make it to the end zone, and it still bothers him. Read more

Norwood breaks out for big gains

Atlanta Falcons
11/10/2008 9:49 AM
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports RB Jerious Norwood’s 67-yard scamper on a pass to the flat came complete with high steps, seven points and a 21-point lead on New Orleans to start the fourth quarter. But it was the eight-minute, 30-second drive on the Falcons’ previous possession that proved just as important in their 34-20 victory Sunday. Michael Turner pounded out 32 yards on eight carries, all but one of those carries running between the tackles, and Jason Elam kicked a 27-yard field goal. More important than the number of points was the amount of time the Falcons kept the ball out of the hands of Saints quarterback Drew Brees. Read more
