Staley takes high road on inactivity

The Post-Gazette reports RB Duce Staley does not understand why the Steelers keep signing running backs to try to do a job he feels fully capable of handling. One week ago, it was undrafted rookie RB Patrick Cobbs, acquired in a trade with New England. Now, it's veteran RB Najeh Davenport, signed off the scrap heap Friday after Green Bay released him. "It's part of the business," Staley said yesterday after practice. "I can't really sit here and say I've never seen it before because I have. It's part of the business, and that's something that's going to be done whether I like it or not." Read more

The Buffalo News reports the Buffalo Bills will be holding their collective breath on the status of LB Takeo Spikes this week. With two defensive rookies - Donte Whitner and Ko Simpson - already guaranteed to start against Miami, the Bills could use their star linebacker in the game. Spikes is listed as questionable and sounded optimistic about recovering from a sore hamstring, which kept him out most of Sunday's opener against New England. Read more

Vanderjagt Continues to Kick in Practice

The Star-Telegram reports HC Bill Parcells said he doesn't think he will bring two kickers to Sunday's game. He also said K Mike Vanderjagt, who was inactive for the season opener, continues to kick in practice. Parcells wouldn't say if he's kicking well, and that he has not made up his mind whether he will use Vanderjagt or Shaun Suisham on Sunday. Read more

The Dayton Daily News reports WR Joe Jurevicius has no broken ribs, Browns HC Romeo Crennel said Wednesday, but there's no telling when he'll play again. "I'm going week-to-week," Crennel said. "He's got some rib-area damage." Jurevicius, a high-profile free-agent addition, didn't make it through the first quarter of Sunday's 19-14, season-opening loss to the Saints. He caught a 20-yard pass from Charlie Frye on fourth down, took a hit, got up, signaled first down and then went to the locker room in pain. Read more
