Salave'a Could Miss Game

The Washington Post reports Redskins starting DT Joe Salave'a was unable to practice again yesterday because of a calf strain and may miss tomorrow's game against the Texans in Houston. A decision will be made shortly before game time, HC Joe Gibbs said. Salave'a has a tremendous tolerance for pain, playing through a foot injury last year that left him barely able to walk, and did not rule himself out. Gibbs said that, in general, if an offensive player does not practice all week, he does not play. But the defensive coaches will have final authority in this case, Gibbs said. Read more

The Trenton Times reports Eagles RB Brian Westbrook returned to practice for the first time in two weeks yesterday and despite being listed as questionable for tomorrow's game against the San Francisco 49ers, he is expected to start the 4:15 p.m. game at Monster Park. Read more

Ware fined

The Star-Telegram reports LB DeMarcus Ware was fined $5,000 by the league for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Washington QB Mark Brunell. Ware, who tried to ease up on the play, was flagged for roughing the passer. He said he is going to appeal the fine. Ware is the second Cowboys player this season to be fined for a hit on a quarterback. S Roy Williams was fined $7,500 for a hit on Jacksonville QB Byron Leftwich. Read more

Roye out, McGinest iffy

AP reports the Browns, desperate for their first win, will be short-handed when they play Baltimore at 1 p.m. Sunday. DE Orpheus Roye said he will sit out, opening a hole in a banged-up Cleveland defense that may be missing LB Willie McGinest for the second week in a row. Roye injured his shoulder in last week's loss at Cincinnati and is listed as questionable on the Browns' cramped injury report. However, Roye, who has played through an assortment of injuries in the past, said he's unlikely to be active. He said he hopes to be ready to go for Week 4. Read more
