Dayne to get start

Houston Texans
09/26/2006 10:10 AM
The Houston Chronicle reports when the Texans play the Miami Dolphins on Sunday at Reliant Stadium, RB Ron Dayne will start his second game at running back. "I want to see him and Samkon ( Gado) play," HC Gary Kubiak said. "The problem with some of these games we've been in is that it's been hard to evaluate both of them. "We had 18 carries (Sunday). That's not many plays to evaluate two backs. "Hopefully, we can come out of a game with 30 or 35 carries where they're splitting time, and we can evaluate both of them." Read more

Jones questionable

Jacksonville Jaguars

The Florida Times-Union reports WR Matt Jones (groin) didn't play much against the Colts, but Del Rio expects him to be healthy this week against the Redskins. "He was questionable going in," HC Jack Del Rio said. "We just didn't feel good about him opening up and playing a lot. He's one of our weapons. We didn't want to lose him for an extended amount of time. We elected not to play him much at all." Read more

Hey, it's why Miami got Harrington in the first place in trade with Detroit a scant two months after it got Culpepper in trade with Minnesota. Harrington was supposed to be more than just an insurance policy, remember. He was supposed to be the Dolphins' starting - that's starting - quarterback until Culpepper worked his way back from the ravages of a wicked knee injury suffered Oct. 30 with Minnesota. The general assumption was that Culpepper might require a calendar year, and perhaps longer, for full and proper rehabilitation. Read more

Close game gives Browns confidence

Cleveland Browns
09/26/2006 7:57 AM
The Dayton Daily News a win would have been preferable, but the Cleveland Browns proved something to themselves Sunday by taking the favored Baltimore Ravens to the wire before losing a 15-14 heartbreaker. "We hung with them, and they're one of the best teams in the league," TE Kellen Winslow II said. The Browns fell to 0-3 when Matt Stover's 52-yard field goal went through the uprights with 20 seconds remaining. But they don't sound like a downtrodden team. If anything, with the winless Oakland Raiders up next, optimism is bubbling. Read more
