Browns' Crennel vows to be more offensive

The Dayton Daily News reports somewhere between cleaning out his basement and spending time with his wife over the bye weekend, Cleveland Browns HC Romeo Crennel decided to become more involved in the team's play calling. It will happen beginning Sunday against the Denver Broncos, who bring seven former Browns to town along with a defense that has allowed one touchdown in five games. "They'll all have input into the game plan," Crennel said of the offensive staff. "I'm going to ensure that we follow it to give us our best chance. If I want to change (a play), I'll change it." Kelly, McFarland linked to rumors

The Tampa Tribune reports while celebrating the Bucs' first win of the season, CB Brian Kelly got a couple of phone calls after the game - only they weren't congratulatory. Kelly received several inquiries about a report that he was on the trading block. The ninth-year veteran's name appeared in a report by Fox Sports' Jay Glazer. With Tuesday's trade deadline approaching, rumors are starting to run rampant. "It is what it is," Kelly said. "I guess they've got two more days for speculation, so I'll let [the phone] ring." Glazer also indicated DT Anthony McFarland could be traded. Read more

Alexander out at least 2 more weeks

The Seattle Times reports Seahawks RB Shaun Alexander is expected to miss two more weeks while the cracked bone in his left foot heals, according to HC Mike Holmgren. Holmgren first gave the estimate on Sunday after Seattle's victory in St. Louis and he said it again this morning on his radio show. Read more

Texans release Buchanon

The Houston Chronicle reports the Texans released CB Phillip Buchanon on Monday, ending what was a disappointing tenure with the team. Buchanon arrived in Houston in April 2005 when former GM Charley Casserly traded a second- and third-round draft pick to the Oakland Raiders. The Texans hoped Buchanon, who was the 17th overall pick in the 2002 draft, would shed his troubles from Oakland and emerge as a quality starter and strong punt returner. Read more
