Walter to make fourth start

The Mercury News reports the Raiders expected QB Aaron Brooks back on the field by now. However, the strained pectoral muscle Brooks sustained against Baltimore on Sept. 17 has not healed as well as expected. Therefore, QB Andrew Walter will make his fourth consecutive start Sunday, against the Arizona Cardinals. Brooks is making weekly progress, just not enough to handle playing quarterback yet, HC Art Shell said. Read more

Kruczek promises changes

The Arizona Republic reports new Cardinals offensive coordinator Mike Kruczek promises to bring energy and passion to his new job. Some points would help, too. Kruczek met with his players Wednesday morning and detailed what had gone wrong in the first six games (plenty) and what needed to be done to improve (also plenty). "I was very dogmatic with an elevated voice when I spoke," Kruczek said. "I was trying to get my point across in a firm, straightforward, black-and-white manner. I'm not one who minces words, there is no sense sugarcoating the situation." Read more

Browns Stadium among bomb targets

AP reports a Web site is claiming that seven NFL football stadiums will be hit with radiological dirty bombs this weekend, but the government on Wednesday expressed doubts about the threat. The warning, posted Oct. 12, was part of an ongoing Internet conversation titled "New Attack on America Be Afraid." It mentioned NFL stadiums in New York, Miami, Atlanta, Seattle, Houston, Oakland and Cleveland, where games are scheduled for this weekend. Read more

The Dayton Daily News reports the Bengals rushed to offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski's defense Wednesday in the wake of heavy public criticism during the club's two-game losing streak. Fans are calling radio talk shows and bashing Bratkowski for his play-calling. "Brat is getting thrown under the bus. It's ridiculous," QB Carson Palmer said. "It's a lot of people talking who don't know football. It's funny to us as players when you hear some of the stuff. When you lose, you're the bum. When you win, you're the hero."
