And in a reshuffling of their practice squad, the 49ers released DT Sam Wilder and K Shaun Suisham and re-signed LB Renauld Williams, who was among their final training-camp cuts. San Diego Chargers 11/01/2006 8:25 AMThe San Diego Union-Tribune reports Chargers LB Shawne Merriman had been leaning toward this decision for days, weighing the likelihood he could win a reversal of his suspension versus the desire to clear his name along with the question of what would be best for his team. In the end, he decided Tuesday to drop the appeal of his four-game suspension for a positive drug test. The NFL's leader in sacks with 8½, Merriman will not play Sunday against Cleveland, Nov. 12 at Cincinnati, Nov. 19 at Denver or Nov. 26 against Oakland.
