James out for two weeks

The Palm Beach Post reports an MRI revealed that left OG Jeno James sustained cartilage damage in his right knee against the Chiefs and will miss at least the next two weeks. If he needs surgery, he will be out at least a month. Kendyl Jacox will continue to fill in. Read more

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Falcons HC Jim Mora says his reeling team is in a fight of its life. The impact of its blows has been weakened by the season-ending loss of one of its hardest hitters. DE Patrick Kerney, the emotional beacon and sacks leader, will have surgery to repair a ruptured right pectoral muscle injury suffered in Sunday's 17-13 loss to the Cleveland Browns, according to coach Jim Mora. Lewis says Bengals didn't quit

The Dayton Daily News reports HC Marvin Lewis dismissed any notion that the Cincinnati Bengals quit playing hard Sunday in a 49-41 loss to the San Diego Chargers. He took responsibility for the defeat on Monday, but held the players accountable for yielding 42 second-half points — the most allowed in a half in club history. Lewis also said "some subtle changes" will be made for this Sunday's game at New Orleans. "No, this team didn't quit at all, in any phase," Lewis said. "Did we not make plays? Yes. But we didn't quit. I'm responsible for the team, so it stops here. At some point, players have to take responsibility to get their job done. It comes down to the player being consistent with it." Calling Chuck Bresnahan "a good defensive coordinator," DE Justin Smith blamed the players for the meltdown. Read more

Brunell benched, Campbell to start

AP reports QB Jason Campbell will make his NFL debut Nov. 19 for the Washington Redskins, replacing QB Mark Brunell for a 3-6 team apparently heading nowhere and in need of a plan for the future. HC Joe Gibbs announced that Campbell, who has been an inactive third quarterback for all 25 games of his pro career, will start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. "We're going to give Jason his opportunity and see if we can be more productive and see if we can get some more answers," Gibbs said. Read more
