Parker nears 1,000

The Post-Gazette reports RB Willie Parker needs 107 yards Sunday to become only the third player in Steelers history to rush for consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. The others are RB Franco Harris, who did it seven times in a row, and RB Jerome Bettis, who did it six consecutive times. Parker has topped 100 yards four times, which includes his 213 yards against New Orleans, second most in team history. All four of those games were played in Heinz Field. Parker runs better at home, where he averages 128 yards per game this season. On the road, he averages 50.6 yards per game. Read more

Saban plays it close to the vest

The Palm Beach Post report HC Nick Saban declined comment on the Dolphins' injuries, preferring to keep the Lions guessing about the lineup. The week's first injury report will be released today. CB Will Allen (groin) and S Travares Tillman (left hand) did not practice. Tillman saw a hand specialist. LB Channing Crowder (right hamstring) did not return to the game Sunday, but was at practice. Bradley pushes him, but Berrian still starter

The Chicago Sun-Times reports the Bears appear to be healed for their game Sunday at New England, with HC Lovie Smith indicating that special-teams performers Leon Joe and Dante Wesley could return. Both were held out against the New York Jets, but Joe practiced on his tweaked hamstring most of last week and Wesley has had two weeks to rest a deep bruise in his left knee and thigh. WR Bernard Berrian came out of the victory over the Jets in good shape, although WR Mark Bradley took some of his playing time and Berrian finished without a catch. Read more

Barnett has a broken hand

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Green Bay Packers LB Nick Barnett suffered a broken hand against the New England Patriots. It was just one of a number of serious injuries the Packers suffered Sunday in a 35-0 loss, although Barnett's might not cause him to miss any time. There is a possibility that he will be able to wear a padded "club" over his hand and continue to play, according to HC Mike McCarthy. Read more
