Cleveland having trouble in red zone

Cleveland Browns
11/22/2006 8:09 AM
The Dayton Daily News reports Jeff Davidson may be a genius play-caller, but when it comes to the red zone, he's been no Maurice Carthon. Since Davidson took over as offensive coordinator following Carthon's firing, the Browns have four touchdowns to show for the 13 times they've been inside their opponents' 20-yard-line. Under Carthon, the Browns scored nine TDs in 16 trips to the red zone. In Sunday's 24-20 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Browns failed to score an offensive touchdown, settling for field goals both times they entered scoring territory. Bryant arrested for drunken driving

San Francisco 49ers
11/21/2006 3:47 PM
AP reports San Francisco 49ers WR Antonio Bryant was arrested on reckless and drunken driving charges after his Lamborghini was seen speeding faster than 100 mph on a freeway. Bryant, 25, was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of misdemeanor charges of reckless driving, driving under the influence and resisting arrest, police Capt. Kevin Raffaelli said. An officer entering U.S. Highway 101 saw Bryant speed past and tried unsuccessfully to catch him, Raffaelli said. He radioed another officer who pulled over Bryant. Bryant showed "signs and symptoms" of being drunk, Raffaelli said, and he was uncooperative, combative and verbally abusive. He refused to step out of the car, he said. The officers were forced to use leather restraints to put Bryant in a seated position with his legs straight and his hands cuffed behind his back, Raffaelli said. Bryant was booked into the San Mateo County jail early Monday morning and released a few hours later on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 28, according to San Mateo County sheriff's Lt. Lisa Williams. Aaron Salkin, a spokesman for the 49ers, said the team was aware of the arrest, but declined to comment further. Read more

AP reports the Denver Broncos are preparing to play without starting SS Nick Ferguson on Thanksgiving Day in Kansas City -- and perhaps for much longer. Ferguson underwent an MRI exam on his left knee on Monday. Although the team didn't announce any results, his teammates and coaches were talking Tuesday as though the seventh-year pro would be out for a while. Read more
