Washington Redskins 11/22/2006 8:23 AMThe Washington Post reports it has been said that a young quarterback's best friend is his tight end, an adage QB Jason Campbell can understand after his first NFL start. Both of Campbell's touchdown passes in the Redskins' loss Sunday at Tampa Bay were to tight ends, with each requiring the receiver to make something happen on his own around the goal line. Starting TE Chris Cooley has endeared himself to Campbell as well as the other two Redskins starters the last three seasons -- Mark Brunell and Patrick Ramsey -- with his sure hands and knack for finding a seam in a defense. For Cooley, it was nothing new, as he has caught touchdowns in four of the past five games and has been the only consistent red-zone passing option all season for an offense that has been surprisingly erratic.Read more
Dallas Cowboys 11/22/2006 8:20 AMThe Star-Telegram reports HC Bill Parcells keeps doing everything he can to keep the QB Tony Romo praise to a minimum, and he drew a line at the latest suggestion that Romo should be a Pro Bowler. "In this day and age, nothing amazes me," Parcells said. "It's a joke." Parcells has taken to calling Romo "my little renegade." And despite the good statistics, most notably his 3-1 record as the starter, Parcells still sees the flaws. He mentioned a pass that was intercepted in the end zone by the Colts but negated by a pass interference call. "If he doesn't get pass interference, we probably lose the game," Parcells said. "Now that was some of Romo's work." Romo shrugs off the hype.Read more
Detroit Lions 11/22/2006 8:17 AMThe Detroit Free Press reports WR Mike Williams made a frank admission Tuesday. "I went through my time when I kind of tanked it," he said. "The problem with that was, it sent out the signal that I didn't care." But Williams is getting another chance. Lions HC Rod Marinelli said Williams would play against Miami in Thursday's Thanksgiving Day game at Ford Field. Wide receivers Devale Ellis (shoulder) and Eddie Drummond (concussion) are listed as questionable on the injury report. Asked if Williams had earned this opportunity or had gotten it because of the circumstances, Marinelli said: "He's doing some things that we like." Marinelli declined to elaborate. Williams has had several problems since the Lions drafted him 10th overall last year, most notably his weight. He hasn't played since dropping a pass Oct. 8 at Minnesota. He hasn't been in uniform for the last five games.Read more
Pittsburgh Steelers 11/22/2006 8:15 AMThe Post-Gazette reports QB Ben Roethlisberger is not on the injury report this week, but his top receiver is listed as questionable. WR Hines Ward's knee was injured in the fourth quarter Sunday, although he finished the game. "All the preliminary tests were done," HC Bill Cowher said. "He basically has a hyperextension of his knee. We'll see how he progresses as the week goes on." Roethlisberger came to the sideline at the two-minute warning in the fourth quarter clutching his right shoulder after he was shoved to the ground. Cowher asked him if he could still throw, he said he could and he completed three more passes, including one for the winning touchdown.Read more
