Kansas City Chiefs
11/22/2006 9:12 AM
The Kansas City Star reports RB Larry Johnson was handed the ball 31 times in a physical game Sunday against Oakland. Four days later, he will possibly be asked to do the same thing or even more Thursday night against the Broncos at Arrowhead Stadium. As addicted as the Chiefs are to Johnson, the Chiefs simply can’t help themselves but to go to Johnson, particularly in the late stages of a close game. “Larry is a very strong runner,” HC Herm Edwards said. “He had a lot of carries last week. The Florida Times-Union reports Jaguars QB Byron Leftwich was scheduled to have left ankle surgery on Tuesday in Birmingham, Ala., but whether the procedure was a success wasn't immediately known. Team spokesman Dan Edwards hadn't received any information regarding the surgery as of Tuesday evening and couldn't confirm whether Leftwich underwent the procedure. Leftwich's agent, Tom Condon, didn't return calls seeking comment. Leftwich has been tight-lipped about his injury, saying he'd further discuss the situation sometime this week. Read more
