One good quarter for Lions

Detroit Lions
11/24/2006 8:01 AM
The Detroit Free Press reports WR Roy Williams had five catches for 110 yards as the Lions took a 10-0 lead in the first quarter. But he had only one catch for 16 yards as they failed to score after that. The Lions had virtually no running game with RB Kevin Jones (ankle) sidelined. The Dolphins started double-teaming Williams and coming after QB Jon Kitna. They sacked Kitna eight times. "I think once they realized we were going to pass every down, they started rushing every down, and we didn't do our job up front protecting Kitna," left OT Jeff Backus said. "Yeah, you can block them. But it's a disadvantage. That's just common sense. When they know what you're going to do 80 to 90% of the time, the odds are in their favor." Read more

The Palm Beach Post reports if the Dolphins are to improve on their four-game winning streak, they may have to do so without RB Ronnie Brown, who left in the third quarter of Thursday's 27-10 victory over the Detroit Lions with an injury to his left hand. Brown said he believed he fractured the first metacarpal (one of the bones between the wrist and fingers) and likely will need surgery today to stabilize it. Dolphins HC Nick Saban refused to reveal the extent of Brown's injury. Read more

Buenning had difficulty putting weight on his right leg, which was wrapped in a brace, and leaned on crutches for support. The second-year lineman was carted off the field midway through the fourth quarter and could be finished for the season with a torn ACL. He missed four starts earlier this season with a serious ankle injury. Read more

Tatum out again

Denver Broncos
11/24/2006 7:54 AM
The Denver Post reports for the third game in five weeks, RB Tatum Bell was inactive. He has been bothered by turf toe issues on both feet the past month, but he has been participating in all recent workouts and was upgraded to probable on the injury report the past two weeks. Bell was among the NFL rushing leaders with 97.5 yards per game through the Broncos' first six games. Last week against San Diego, Tatum Bell watched in sweats while Mike Bell and Nash combined for 30 carries and 142 yards. "It was the coaches' decision that they wanted me to be 100 percent," Tatum Bell said. "And not 60, 70, 80 or 90 percent. Next week I should be ready to go." Read more
