Lions put Cody on IR

The Detroit Free Press reports the Lions put DT Shaun Cody (toe) on injured reserve, ending his season. Another starting defensive lineman, end James Hall (shoulder), is already on IR. Another, DT Shaun Rogers (knee), has come back from a four-game suspension for using a banned substance but isn't practicing yet. Read more

Ohio State's Pitcock a finalist for Lott trophy

The Dayton Daily News reports Ohio State DT Quinn Pitcock was selected as one of three finalists Monday for the Lott Trophy, which goes to the nation's top defensive player who also exhibits high character. California CB Daymeion Hughes and Penn State LB Paul Posluszny also were named. The winner will be announced Dec. 10. Read more

Browns receiver regrets tantrum

The Dayton Daily News reports Cleveland Browns WR Braylon Edwards apologized Monday for his Terrell Owens-style sideline outburst but said it came from a good place. "The biggest thing I was trying to do was show how passionate I was about the game," Edwards said. "We don't play chess. This isn't swimming. It takes a man to play this game, and you have to have passion." Edwards began screaming at teammates, including QB Charlie Frye, late in the third quarter of Sunday's 30-0 thrashing by the Cincinnati Bengals. He said his rage was not directed at Frye, despite how it looked. "I grabbed his jersey in reference to something else," said Edwards. "We'll keep that in-house, but my actions definitely were not against Charlie." Edwards, who would not talk after the game, apparently grabbed Frye by the shoulder to make a point about how the offensive line needed to do a better job of keeping the beleaguered quarterback's uniform clean. Tailback Perry has surgery for broken leg

The Dayton Daily News reports Bengals RB Chris Perry is expected to be placed on season-ending Injured Reserve after undergoing surgery Monday to repair the fractured fibula in his right leg. Known as the calf bone, the fibula is the outside and smaller of the two long bones in the lower leg. The other lower-leg bone is the tibia. The tibia bears weight; the fibula does not. Perry was injured on his only carry — a 10-yard run at 10:14 of the second quarter — in Cincinnati's 30-0 victory at Cleveland. Read more
