The Dayton Daily News reports QB Carson Palmer and WR Chad Johnson are on fire. Palmer has generated a passer rating of 120-plus in three straight games, and he's tied for the league lead (Colts' Peyton Manning) with 21 TD passes. Johnson tops the NFL in receiving yards (1,055) and has five straight 1,000-yard seasons. He's made first downs on 40 of 54 career catches against the Ravens. The NFL's No. 31 defense (361.7) will be tested by the Ravens' balanced attack. Read more

McNabb surgery goes as planned

The Trenton Times reports just when the Eagles thought they might have some encouraging injury news to report, they were hit with another blow. Given the way their season is going, it was apropos that on the day surgery was performed on QB Donovan McNabb's injured knee, they were forced to shut down tight end and long-snapping specialist Mike Bartrum for the season with a potentially serious disc condition. Team trainer Rick Burkholder was optimistic about McNabb's long-term prognosis following surgery yesterday by Dr. James Andrews to repair a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in McNabb's right knee. Kubiak unhappy with running backs

The Houston Chronicle reports HC Gary Kubiak didn't even try to sugarcoat the problems his running game had against the New York Jets, when the Texans finished with a total of 25 rushing yards on 14 carries. RB Samkon Gado and RB Wali Lundy each averaged less than 1.5 yards per carry. "They did not play well, either one of them," Kubiak said. "And I told them that. Did they have enough carries? No, that's my fault. But they are both better than they played. We're not always going to block every one of them; they have to make somebody miss. I want to see both those kids come back and play better this week." Lundy said he looks forward to trying to redeem himself against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday. "There are some cuts I wish I could take back," Lundy said. "I put it all on me." Read more
