Falcons bank on Norwood's endurance

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Falcons rookie RB Jerious Norwood, too caught up in the moment to truly grasp the magnitude and excitement of his 69-yard touchdown run that sealed Atlanta's 24-14 victory over Washington on Sunday, got to watch himself on film during Monday's team meeting. "That was a big thumbs up," said Norwood, whose down-home delivery sounds as if he's got you on the porch, telling you tales of yesteryear. "It happened so fast. It was like an outside zone stretch play. The corner was thinking I was going outside, but I set him up like I was going outside and made a cut inside. When I made him miss, it was off to the races then. The last line of defense, I just got him all turned around. Before I knew it, I was in the end zone. "When I'm out there on Sunday, I'm out there playing ball, having fun doing my thing. Some of the stuff I do, I don't realize I'm doing it until the day after. Some of it is pretty amazing." Brown out for Sunday's game

The Palm Beach Post reports RB Ronnie Brown (left hand) had a checkup, but the results were not immediately known. He is not expected back for Sunday's game against the New England Patriots. HC Nick Saban said right OG Jeno James (right knee) is "making some progress" and will be reevaluated on Wednesday. Read more

Rookie QB gets some backing

The Pioneer Press reports Vikings HC Brad Childress said Monday he has not made a decision on his quarterback for Sunday's game at Detroit. But two starters Monday lobbied for rookie QB Tarvaris Jackson to supplant veteran QB Brad Johnson in the lineup. Both players, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said starting Jackson would not be a concession that the team is giving up on the rest of the season. Decision coming soon on Rogers

The Detroit Free Press reports HC Rod Marinelli said the Lions would probably look at DT Shaun Rogers one more time this week and then decide whether to put him on injured reserve, ending his season. In October, when he received a four-game suspension for using a banned dietary supplement, Rogers took the opportunity to have minor surgery to correct a nagging knee problem. Since becoming eligible to play again, Rogers has missed two games. Read more
