The Washington Post reports the Redskins released K Nick Novak yesterday, ending his second short stint with the club, and will evaluate K Shaun Suisham the rest of the season, HC Joe Gibbs said. Suisham was effective on kickoffs in Sunday's 24-14 loss to Atlanta, and missed a 50-yard field goal in his only attempt. Novak, who starred at Maryland, said he may stay in the area for a few weeks and work out, hoping to catch on with another team. He also hopes to get a shot at an NFL Europe spot. The Chicago Sun-Times reports the Bears' belief that DT Tommie Harris did not suffer a serious knee injury was proven true Monday. Harris told sources he expects to miss only a couple of games, and HC Lovie Smith said it's not season-ending. Whether that means he will return in the regular season, which has four games remaining, is undetermined. Read more

An officer with the Green Bay police department referred questions about the call to the public information office, which was closed late Monday afternoon. A club spokesman said the team's security department was aware of police involvement but could not comment because it was an open investigation. Harlan said if the matter were serious he would have heard from director of corporate security Jerry Parins. A message left for Parins was not returned. Read more

Dallas Cowboys
12/05/2006 10:23 AM
The Star-Telegram reports don't expect a lineup change in the backfield. HC Bill Parcells said RB Marion Barber will remain the backup to RB Julius Jones despite becoming the more productive running back. Barber led the team in rushing Sunday with 12 carries for 76 yards and two touchdowns. He leads the NFC with 11 rushing touchdowns, which equal the most by a Cowboys player since Emmitt Smith had 11 in 1999. "He is aggressive with the ball," Parcells said. "He has a good nose for the goal line. He is making a difference for us." Read more
