Bengals content, looking to the offseason

The Dayton Daily News reports the Cincinnati Bengals are off to a fast start for the offseason, clearing one hurdle after re-signing head coach Marvin Lewis to a contract extension on Tuesday. The organization is expected to turn its attention toward re-signing a number of current players they would like to have back next season. The team’s leading rusher, running back Cedric Benson, is hoping he’s among the players the Bengals view as high priority.

A pivotal game for Palmer this week

The Dayton Daily News reports there may be some cause for concern in Cincinnati after back-to-back lackluster performances by quarterback Carson Palmer. He completed 19 out of 37 passes for 195 yards and a touchdown along with two interceptions in the game against Carolina. Palmer appeared lethargic and could never get into a rhythm throwing the ball. He made a number of ill-advised throws that could have proven costly. The Bengals had nearly 50 plays in Panthers’ territory resulting in only 20 points. Execution of the offense left much to be desired. Read more

Palmer will ‘silence his critics,’ Bengals QB coach says

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — Anybody who questions quarterback Carson Palmer’s ability to lead the Cincinnati Bengals’ offense should listen to Ken Zampese. “He does a lot more than anybody thinks he does,” the team’s quarterbacks coach said. “He’ll grab someone and walk into the film room immediately after practice. He won’t say anything about it and nobody knows he does it. "Carson’s communication skills are terrific, but you may not see it because it may happen at the dorm or during special teams. Just different places where he can hit a particular topic and get something accomplished. He’s a terrific player.” The Bengals struggled in the passing game last season and will go as far as Palmer’s arm will take them. Read more

Coach Zimmer motivates Bengals defense

The Dayton Daily News reports the Cincinnati Bengals are building a foundation on defense upon which championship teams are made. The unit consists of exuberant youth and crafty veterans with a strong desire to win. There is talent at every position, and the players seem to respond well to the stern coaching of defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer. His coaching philosophy has made all the difference for this defense. Read more
