Bengals need Maualuga to bounce back

The Dayton Daily News reports when the Cincinnati Bengals selected Rey Maualuga with the 38th overall pick of the 2009 NFL draft, many viewed the pick as a steal. Maualuga was regarded as a top linebacker prospect and projected first-round pick, but slid to the Bengals in round two. As a rookie, Maualuga’s impact on defense was almost immediate. He wasted little time proving he was a first-round talent earning a starting job at outside linebacker over veteran Rashad Jeanty during training camp. His fiery and aggressive play helped him record 63 tackles and one sack. Read more

Bengals defense takes field despite lockout

The Dayton Daily News reports members of the Cincinnati Bengals defense reunited Tuesday for the first time since the NFL lockout began in March. The atmosphere at Ignition Sports Complex in Mason, Ohio wasn’t about fun but work. Two dozen Bengals defensive players showed up to take part in the minicamp organized by the players. Veteran defensive tackle Domata Peko and linebacker Rey Maualuga spearheaded the workout along with Clif Marshall, Performance Director at Ignition. Read more

The Dayton Daily News reports speculations are running rampant on whether or not the Cincinnati Bengals will use the fourth overall pick in this month’s draft to select a quarterback. That being said, it might make more sense for the team to go after a veteran quarterback such as Kevin Kolb or Donovan McNabb. The window of opportunity is closing quickly and the Bengals want to win now. Everything, of course, hinges on what will take place with starter Carson Palmer, but this we know. The Bengals will select a quarterback at some point in the draft. Virginia Tech quarterback Tyrod Taylor is an intriguing prospect to keep an eye on in the middle rounds. The Cincinnati Bengals have played host to some notable prospects in recent weeks in preparation for this month’s NFL draft. The team is expected to intensify its search for draft hopefuls as draft day draws near. In town this week will be top receiving prospect A.J. Green out of the University of Georgia. According to Green, he will visit the Bengals today before traveling to Cleveland for a meeting with the Browns on Wednesday. Read more
