Niners' Lawson tears ACL in practice

ESPN.com reports the San Francisco 49ers suffered their first major injury blow of the season Thursday when they learned LB Manny Lawson was lost for the season because of a torn ACL. Lawson suffered the knee injury late in practice Wednesday and a subsequent MRI revaled the tear. He will require season-ending surgery and will eventually be placed on the injured reserve list. "I heard a pop, and I remember what (teammate) C.J. Brewer had talked about when he (injured his knee), so I was nervous," Lawson told the team's Web site. "I tried to test it out, but really I just had to wait for the MRI." Read more

Gore misses another practice after mother's funeral

AP reports RB Frank Gore didn't return from his mother's funeral in Miami in time for the San Francisco 49ers’ practice Wednesday. HC Mike Nolan expects the Pro Bowl starter to be back in practice Thursday with the 49ers, who face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Read more

Anderson named AFC Offensive Player-of-the-Week

Cleveland Browns QB Derek Anderson was named AFC Offensive Player-of-the-Week, the NFL announced this morning.  Anderson completed 20-of-33 passes for 328 yards and five touchdowns for a 121.0 quarterback rating in the Browns 51-45 win over Cincinnati this past Sunday. Anderson’s five touchdown passes matched a franchise record and his 328 yards passing also marked a career-high.  Anderson was part of an offensive unit that scored 51 points, tied for fourth highest point total in franchise history, and rolled up 554 net yards of total offense, third highest total in club annals.
