Bengals waive Ratliff

BigCProfootball.com reports the Cincinnati Bengals have waived fourth-year CB Keiwan Ratliff. Ratliff was a second-round Bengals draft choice in 2004 and leaves the team with 51 career games played and eight starts. Read more

Bears bench Grossman in favor of Griese

AP reports the Chicago Bears have seen enough of QB Rex Grossman. Now it's QB Brian Griese's turn. The much anticipated quarterback change became official Wednesday when the defending NFC champions announced Griese would start this week at Detroit. At 1-2 and with the league's 30th-ranked offense, something needed to change for the Bears. So they turned to Griese, a Pro Bowl pick with Denver in 2000. "I'm excited for Brian," HC Lovie Smith said. "He brings a lot of experience. He's been a loyal soldier in a backup role up to this point. He's anxious to go. Our team will back him 100 percent like they did Rex, and hopefully, we can get this thing going in the right direction. Read more

Johnson declared day-to-day

The Detroit Free Press reports WR Calvin Johnson walked gingerly through the Lions' locker room Monday, like an old man. A teammate teased him, and he smiled. Johnson, the second overall pick in this year's draft, suffered a lower back injury when he fell making an impressive, leaping catch in Sunday's 56-21 loss at Philadelphia. But it's just a bad bruise. Nothing's broken. "Just came down wrong, I guess," Johnson said. "I smacked the dirt pretty hard. I felt it right away." Cardinals' no-huddle offense here to stay

The Arizona Republic reports the Cardinals' no-huddle offense won't resemble the Colts' any time soon. QB Kurt Warner won't turn into an orchestra conductor like Peyton Manning, who points, waves and gestures as he calls plays in a language only a few understand. But Cardinals HC Ken Whisenhunt plans to use the no-huddle, featuring Warner, throughout the season. Warner envisions the scheme growing in size and complexity. Read more
