Washington, Wilson roles may expand if Ward sits

The Post-Gazette reports if WR Hines Ward does sit Sunday against Arizona, as a result of a right knee sprain, it would open the door for bigger offensive roles for WR Cedrick Wilson and WR Nate Washington. Wilson understands as much, but then again, he hasn't gone about things any differently this week in practice. Read more

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the wheel continues to spin in the Green Bay Packers' backfield and in whose hands the ball lands is anyone's guess. The uncertain status of starter Brandon Jackson and injured Vernand Morency could lead the Packers to start either RB DeShawn Wynn or RB Ryan Grant on Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings. Jackson sat out practice Thursday with a strained shin suffered Sunday against San Diego and could be a scratch depending on how he feels today. Read more

AP reports QB Brady Quinn was urged to "Play Like A Champion" at the University of Notre Dame. These days, all he can do is practice like one. While his fabled alma mater anguishes through its worst start in its 119-year history of football, Quinn, the former Golden Dome quarterback, is doing all he can to stay sharp as a backup for the Cleveland Browns. It hasn't been easy. No. 10 isn't accustomed to being No. 2 — in anything. For the first time since early in his freshman year under the imposing shadow of Touchdown Jesus and a long line of Heisman Trophy winners, Quinn is not starting or playing. And while he's destined to be the Browns' quarterback of the future, presently he's serving as Derek Anderson's backup. Read more
