Green, Mathis likely out

The Houston Chronicle reports Texans HC Gary Kubiak said he will make a game-time decision on RB Ahman Green (bruised knee) and wide receiver/kick returner Jerome Mathis (sore lower leg). Neither player practiced all week, and they are not expected to play Sunday. Read more

Injured Clark, Jackson miss practice

The Indianapolis Star reports TE Dallas Clark and CB Marlin Jackson were held out of Friday's practice, but the Indianapolis Colts are optimistic each will be available for Sunday's game against Denver. Clark injured his left quadriceps near the end of Thursday's practice, while Jackson aggravated a quadriceps injury the same day. HC Tony Dungy said Clark ran before Friday's workout "and did pretty well, but we held him (out). He should be OK.'' Read more

Knee injury has Ward out for Arizona

The Post-Gazette reports WR Hines Ward tried to take a philosophical approach to the fact he will miss the Steelers game tomorrow with the Arizona Cardinals due to a sprained knee, but there was no hiding his disappointment. Ward, who injured the knee this past Sunday against San Francisco, did not practice yesterday and was ruled out for the game by HC Mike Tomlin. Read more

Morency gets green light

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports the Green Bay Packers welcomed back one ailing running back, prepared to play without another and crossed their fingers that C Scott Wells will be at full strength Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings at the Metrodome. RB Vernand Morency, the projected starter when training camp opened, did everything in practice Friday for the first time since his knee injury July 28 and almost certainly will play, perhaps extensively. The Packers have a huge need for Morency because rookie RB Brandon Jackson is out with a shin injury. Read more
