Former Seahawk TE gets jail time, fine

10/03/2007 9:00 AM AP reports TE Jerramy Stevens of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was sentenced Tuesday to 30 days in jail and fined more than $3,100 for his March arrest in Scottsdale on charges of drunken driving and traffic violations, a prosecutor said. Scottsdale Judge B. Monte Morgan ruled that Stevens won't have to serve 18 of those days as long as he completes an alcohol-rehabilitation program, Scottsdale city prosecutor Caron Close said. Alex Smith to seek 2nd opinion

10/03/2007 8:57 AM The Mercury News reports 49ers QB Alex Smith is seeking a second opinion on his injured throwing shoulder, which might lead to season-ending surgery, according to an ESPN.com report. Smith will consult with Dr. James Andrews after preliminary MRI exam results indicated he appears to have suffered a serious injury to tendons in his right shoulder during a 23-3 loss to Seattle on Sunday, a source told ESPN.com. If the diagnosis performed at Stanford is confirmed by Andrews, the source said, Smith is expected to have corrective surgery immediately even though he would probably miss the rest of the season. Pacman's Georgia trial date is moved

10/03/2007 8:54 AM The Nashville Tennessean reports Titans CB Pacman Jones' trial in Georgia on a felony charge of obstruction has been continued until March, according to an official with the Fayette County district attorney's office. As a result of negotiations between the DA's office and Jones' attorney, however, a plea could be entered as soon as January. Read more

Polamalu, Hampton fit enough to play

10/03/2007 8:52 AM The Post-Gazette reports S Troy Polamalu and NT Casey Hampton, the Steelers' two defensive Pro Bowl players who left Sunday's game in Arizona with injuries, will return to play against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at Heinz Field. "We expect both those guys to be OK," HC Mike Tomlin said yesterday. Polamalu left the game with a strained abdomen and Hampton left with a hamsting injury. Tomlin said the only effect is they may be limited in some practices this week. Read more
