Schlegel excited to see old Buckeyes

The Dayton Daily News reports revenge isn't the right word for what's on LB Anthony Schlegel's mind. Excitement is more like it. Unceremoniously dumped by the New York Jets, who picked him in the third round of the 2006 NFL draft, the Bengals grabbed him off waivers Sept. 2. Now he's Cincinnati's starting middle linebacker. And he gets a chance to face his former teammates Sunday, including C Nick Mangold and PK Mike Nugent. The trio experienced lots of mud, sweat and cheers at Ohio State. Read more

AP reports Baltimore Ravens middle LB Ray Lewis has an injured knee and is one of several key players who could miss Sunday's game against Buffalo. Lewis will be a game-time decision, HC Brian Billick said Friday. Read more

Vernon Davis thinks he's ready to go

The Mercury News reports TE Vernon Davis returned to 49ers practice Wednesday and appears on track to play Sunday against the New York Giants. It was the first action for Davis since injuring his right knee last month in a game at Pittsburgh. Though his participation was limited and he wore a protective brace, Davis said he was able to perform on the practice field at full speed. "I feel good," he said. "I should be able to play." Pittman could be back soon

The Tampa Tribune reports Bucs RB Michael Pittman shocked many by riding around in a blue scooter last week, but he had another surprise Thursday. Pittman, who was slated to miss six to eight weeks after tearing ligaments in his right ankle against Indianapolis, said he is nearly 80 percent recovered and expects to be on the field soon.
